Book Reviews
Timepass - By Pooja Bedi:
She says that she lived life on her own terms and conditions. Well if that’s the case then it’s very much suggested that never live life like that. Pooja Bedi, who edited this memoirs of her mother Protima, in a moving forward writes of her as a fun loving, lively person. But reading the book presents a depressive, lonely, unhappy, insecure Protima who keeps on falling from one relationship to another. In this good but at parts boring book, you may discover why it’s always safe not to live a ‘selfish’ and 'different' life. Memorable line: By Protima – "I was no Sita to my husband, no Yashoda to my children and no Radha to my lovers. I just lived life on my own terms." Buy it!

.Speed Post - By Shobha De:
What has happened to Shobha De? May be it’s the result of overwork. What with churning out a novel every six months. This one is a set of fictional (what a way to mislead readers) letters supposedly written by her to her six kids. A very average book. De plays agony aunty. Will remind you of Dr. Chugh columns. Coming from someone who wrote ‘Selective Memory’, this one indeed is a sad disappointment.

Into Thin Air - By Jon Krakauner:
If you are a mountain freak or if you love thrillers then this is the book which you can’t afford to miss. Its a real life drama on the Mt. Everest when 11 people died while climbing it. The author himself was a part of the expedition and hence lends greater credibility. The narrative is racy, fast, thrilling and one which will keep you on the edge of your seat. You may feel as if you yourself have got stranded in the Everest and it’s you who’s dying. This book, declared by TIME as one of the best books of the year has won several awards and is now considered a classic. Warning: Not to be read by folks who suffers from high Blood Pressure. Buy it today!

An Equal Music - By Vikram Seth:
It's a story of love lost, found and lost again and how music can form a passionate theme throughout one's life. The whole novel is a first person account. As expected from Vikram Seth, the book is very poetic in form. Even though it contains a lot of technicalities associated with classical western music, the flow of the story remains unhampered. A more-than-good buy. Buy it today!

Toni Morrison is an absolute Goddess of Literature! Everything she writes is magnificent. Anyone with a heart and soul will love her".

In a bare-it-all fashion, Maya Angelou reveals to dull, inhibited social animals, what fun it is to live with no holds barred, to be in tune with all your desires and wishes, no matter how far-fetched or wild!

As long as the story of Debdas and Paro is retold to generation after generation, Sarat Babu will continue to live in our memory.

The Ground Beneath Her Feet - By Salman Rushdie:
Quite a putoff! It was the worst thing you could have ever expected of Rushdie. Of course, there's no doubt that no one can beat him in "magic realism". But this time he took it too far. Technically, the book is excellent but somehow there are no emotions in it. A reader just can't identify with any of the characters. Seems Rushdie's purpose was not to tell a story but to flaunt his heavy-duty writing skills to his readers. Buy it only if you are into Rushdieology and want to make this passionless novel a part of your Rushdie collection. Buy it today!

Lollipop Street - By Tavleen Singh:
Cynical, snooty spoilsport, Sonia hater, socialite-masquerading-as-a-journalist. These are just some of the titles which Tavleen is usually complemented with. But just by reading her columns in INDIA TODAY you will have to confess that whatever she writes makes sense. This book is based on Tavleen's experiences while she was conducting interviews with politicians, filmstars and likewise for her T.V programme "Ek Din Ek Jeevan". She has decried almost everyone. Be it Vajpayee, Advani or Rabri Devi. Only exception being George Fernandes. But the best pieces are on Sonia Gandhi, Chandrashekhar and V.S Naipaul. The book is as good as Tavleen's earlier one on Kashmir. Well almost! Must buy.
